Buyers pay more for craft when they know who made it, yet most shop templates hide the maker behind a product grid. HandSpark is a free handmade shop Astro theme that does the opposite: it puts the people, the process and the studio on the page first, then lets the shop close the sale.
It suits makers, small craft studios, art print sellers and independent artisans who want their own storefront rather than another listing on a marketplace.

Show the maker, then the shop
Process sections, a team grid, a studio gallery and customer reviews put people on the page before the price. Show the maker first, and the price feels earned rather than high.
A catalog that runs from files
Each product is a Markdown file with its price, SKU, category and images in the frontmatter and the description in the body. Add a file and a product page appears, and the shop, the category archive and the sitemap follow. The schemas fail the build if a field is missing, so a broken product never reaches the live site.
A shop you can switch on
Every Add to Cart carries the product id, name, price, currency and quantity. A static site has nothing to answer it, so attach Snipcart, a Shopify Buy Button or any provider that reads a form, and the shop goes live without changing the markup.
Bring your own CMS, one collection at a time
Content works with no CMS at all. When you want one, set a single switch to Contentful, Sanity, Strapi, WordPress or Shopify. Any collection with no remote equivalent keeps using the local files.
Motion that respects the reader
Every reveal is declared in the markup and defined once in a single script, so one change retimes the whole site. Readers who ask for reduced motion get the page with nothing moving.
What this theme does not do
It does not include a checkout or payment processing. The cart forms are ready, and the commerce provider you attach handles the cart, checkout and payment.
There is no customer account area, no inventory management and no site search.
The demo photography is placeholder imagery from Freepik. Replace it with photos of your own work before you launch.
Who it is for
- Makers and craft studios selling their own work
- Art print, ceramics and textile sellers
- Etsy sellers who want a storefront of their own
- Developers building a small shop for a client who would rather edit files than fight a page builder
Customizing it
Products, posts, categories, makers and reviews are content entries, so adding to the site means filling in fields. Design tokens live in one stylesheet, your own corrections go in a separate file that loads last, and the style guide page shows every component at once.
If you would rather not do it yourself, our team can customize this theme for you, from color and content changes through to connecting a store and adding new pages. Request a theme customization quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. HandSpark is free to download and use for your own site or a client's.
Can I sell products with it?
Yes, once you attach a commerce provider such as Snipcart or a Shopify Buy Button. The product forms are already in place.
Do I need a CMS to use it?
No. All content ships with the theme and works as it is. A CMS is optional, one collection at a time.
Does it need a server to run?
No. It builds to static files and deploys anywhere that serves a website, including free hosting tiers. It needs Node 22.12 or newer to build.
